Reception is fine. You need to worry about the water cooling system on your CPUs.
I am on it.. good news is that the G5 Quads compared to the dual 2.5 and dual 2.7's don't have a high rate of LCS leaks, as this was due to the revised liquid cooling system.

pics are small with a lot of compression artifacting so it's difficult to see what's going on and what's caused by what.
lens aberration usually occurs around the outer edge of the lens.
do you see this in the viewfinder or just after importing.
could be blown out whites combined with high contrast (white shirt under black shirt). Could be autofocus hunting. Could be a sensor problem. Lots of "could be's" that require a controlled environment if you want to troubleshoot.
If your shooting auto anything, turn it off and compare.
I would do controlled tests using a focus chart and color chart if i wanted to troubleshoot. Test multiple exposures. You could also throw on another lens.
Thanks for the reply!
I don't see this in the viewfinder. This was taken on manual focus by zooming in, focussing, then back out, so the subject should be in critical focus.
I'll track down a focus chart and color chart and test it out.
The camera is set on cine gamma and pressed blacks. Do you think that impact along with the contrast of black to white? It doesn't always have this odd effect when on these settings.

Hey all,
Ok, so I have been using the MOTU Ultralite for a number of years now. I end up working on my music off and on, so I am by no means "experienced" in this arena. (I come from the days of the old cassette-based 4-track).
Anyway, after reading rave reviews of the FMR Audio RNP (Really Nice Preamp), I bought it. Having recorded acoustic guitar using a Rode NT1-A into the preamp, and then into input 1 on the MOTU, I've had good results.
Here is my question.....
When I record guitar (1978 Gibson ES-335 with factory coil-tap :D ) , is it better to go from the PREAMP into one of the LINE-INs on the MOTU interface, OR go from the PREAMP into one of the two MIC / INST inputs on the MOTU ?? Isn't that like using two preamps?? I don't use the 48v boost or pads on the MIC / INST input on the MOTU.
For an experiment, I tried going PREAMP > Line-In (Ch3) on the MOTU, loaded up one of the guitar channel strips in Logic, and recorded.
I found that by setting the preamp level to +18db on the RNP (can go from 6-66db of gain), setting the TRIM on the MOTU line input 3 to about 7, I was getting a decent signal. Prior to this, I'd have only 6db of gain on the preamp, the trim on MOTU line 1 set at about 4, and I'd have to use a noise gate quite heavily.
I'm not sure if it's my imagination or not, but it seemed to sound better going through the line-in input. That's my problem!!! I am not sure what the best method is.
The RNP has two channels with HI-Z 1/4 inputs in the front, and two standard XLR jacks in the rear for microphones, both channels also having a +48V button for phantom power for microphones. Additionally, the MOTU first two channels have a 48V toggle switch and pads.
Can anyone provide insight into my dilemma ?
Thanks! :)

Strange reason why I rented it, but that's another conversation entirely.
Who cares why you rented it... it's a beautiful flick and that is all that matters.

I got handbrake, but I don't see the option to customize the resolution. I'm probably just over looking it.

you're restoring to an earlier OS, thus the issue you are describing. Go spend $30 for 10.6 at an apple store, upgrade to the latest OS revision (currently 10.6.7) and then do the time machine restore. You will again get a kernel panic if you keep using the original macbook restore DVD (it will either have tiger or leopard on it, neither will work if you previously had SL)
on the other hand, if you have an enclosure for your old hard drive (the smaller 120GB one) you could simply do a clone to the larger one using carbon copy cloner.

I currently have both at home (lol). I tried using the wireless and it's hard for me to get used to it. I'm not sure why... is there any difference apart from the size. keypad & arrows, between the wireless & wired keyboard? btw I'm coming from a windows pc - which is why I'm finding it difficult :S either way, are the keys spaced out the same way on the wired as they are on the wireless? I know I could try both - but there's no point opening the wired one, if they're more or less the same.....

Are you fingers are all broken? Most modern Mac keyboards have System Volume keys on kets F10 (mute), F11 (Volume down) & F12 (Volume up). Why not use your fingers?
Plus I use Audio Hijack Pro (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11067/audio-hijack-pro) to control many system sounds (and record any system sound).
No, my finders aren't broken. When you use the F10,11&12 keys, the volume bar comes up on the screen. I want more resolution (hence a bigger volume bar). So i can listen to music quieter (or have more resolution at quieter levels).
Also, i don't want to change the system sounds, just control each windows volume separately, but this is not the main question.
Thanks anyway.

FWIW you can generally find a 2006/2007 iMac Core 2 Duo in full working condition cheaper than either a used mini or broken screen Macbook. ~$250-300.

My kids favorite place to eat. My least favorite place to eat. Food reminds me of something you would get out of the freezer section. Also last few years the place has really gone down hill. They could really use to put some money into this place.

Why not ask your son?
Maybe it is going to be a surprise
I think the high end 15" would be ideal if it needs to be portable, otherwise the 17" for that extra screen when editing HD movies.
