Hiya folks,
I've had a small problem for a little while and I figured it might be worth tossing out here. Maybe someone can make heads or tails of it.
We have multiple computers at our home. I use an Airport Extreme (latest model) to share a 20 Mb connection across a WPA/WPA2 wireless network. All other computers in the house are using the connection without a problem. My Mac Pro, however, always struggles with bandwidth when it is first powered on (enough that web browsing is relatively futile). If I reset the Airport it solves this problem until I turn the Mac Pro off again.
The Mac Pro is a room away from the Airport, which does its job well enough that I can browse in my relatively sizable back yard, in front of the house, or even out in the street. It is on the floor for the time being, which is something a senior technician at Apple noted as cause for degraded signal. It has never worked in this regard and I'm not sure how long this problem has lasted, as before I moved the Mac Pro was always connected via gigabit ethernet. Short of hauling the Mac Pro in to the Apple Store for some blind troubleshooting I am not sure what might be causing this. I've got some pretty extensive networking experience and the folks in Apple's networking division are equally baffled. We've replaced the Airport.
Has anyone encountered something like this?
In the least it would always be good to have some extra ideas before discussing the issue with someone at the Genius Bar, especially considering they'll likely be far less experienced than the Apple Care senior engineers.

I know full well that that something similar to this question has been asked many times before, because I've spent the last half hour looking for it. But I can't find the answer to my specific thing.
Okay, basically, in the dock, my computer used to have folders for Applications and Documents. Then, a couple of days ago, I managed to accidentally get rid of them. Now, when I try to drag them back, the icons aren't the same. I know that it's a small, and rather foolish, thing, but I'm a control freak, and it matters.
Before, this icons were like this: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/9898/screenshot20110424at130.png/http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/9898/screenshot20110424at130.png
Now, they are like this:

Thanks in advance. I hope.

Search "OpenSSH" in Cydia, download and install. If you need a SSH computer program (Windows) I use WinSCP.

Hi there,
My iphone will not turn on, its able to connect to my mac, only in dfu.
After trying to restore itunes says: error 23.
Read a lot of forums but always whitout a real solution... Most say its water damage but mine has a different story:
Jailbroken, custom firmware 4.2.1 on baseband 6:15:00.
Used it for a couple of months, never opened cydia. A friend of mine opened the cydia app and it started updating. Then the iphone slowly died in 2 days:
First battery fast drainage and after the battery died it will not turn on again. Connected to usb power cable: able to connect to itunes in fdu: error 23
Anyone any clue?
Thanks a lot!!

Give them to charity. It's better than putting them in the bin.
And I don't know how UK tax laws work, but in the US you get a tax deduction for charitable gifts.

There are a number of us who are having trouble accessing .mac mail since last night (18+ hours). I can access ALL .mac services, except for mail (webmail seems to be unavailble as well).
.Mac system status shows the following: ".Mac email is currently unavailable for a small number of .Mac customers. iDisk and web-based services (like HomePage, Backup and iCards) are unaffected."

First thing to try is to delete ~/Library/com.apple.Dock.plist (~ denotes your user folder, in case you're not familiar with the notation), and then restart. That will recreate that file with the default contents. If that doesn't work, you'll have to do a reinstall probably, unless you saved the original Dock.app files (which is always recommended, even when using CandyBar or similar apps). If you use Time Machine, then you can get it from there, assuming you didn't intentionally exclude System Files.

Hi
what's the best up scaling media player for Mac? I have VLC, QuickTime
and mplayer installed, but willing to get another one.
With what software can I reenecode up scaled?
Because I have a 27" screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 ;-)
cheers Sven
You want to to play upscaled or you eant it to reencode upscaled?
As for playing I would think VLC is technically better because you have dozens of scaling and display options. BUt it all depends on just how much you're upscaling... if you're trying to make 320x240 look like 720p you're going to be disappointed.

Thankyou so much for the link, we will be trying that tonight! Just out of curiosity, do you have any ideas as to why this sort of thing happens or if there is anyway to avoid such things in future?

This was a great video. If your interested in Leopard (which is a version of OS X BTW), its a must see.
The slides show some of the presentation a little more clearly, but they aren't useful by themselves.

im talking GPU (vs hd 3000)
processor isnt everything
Great, the GPU is also better!
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1102927
Even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be any worse, as that would be ridiculously stupid of Apple and, to my knowledge, they've never come out with a computer that had a less capable GPU than the previous model (though they have come out with computers that had a GPU only marginally more capable). Provided the two GPUs were very close, the i5 is going to make the difference.
Do your research first. I know the CPU isn't everything, but it's a bigger step up than the GPU, which is why I mentioned it.

Hi, for anyone attempting to do this in the future, I thought I would share how to do it.....
first off, you need to declare a variable, in my case, lastClickedRow, and have 2 functions, in my case, storeLastRow and setRowAfterUpdate.
var lastClickedRow=0;
function storeLastRow(){

It does sound like it could be hardware...
Two things that are sort of unlikely, but worth considering:
1) If this happens often enough, can you get someone else to try it? If you have many calluses on your fingers, or something like this, then sometimes this will interfere with the trackpad functioning.
2) The trackpad also will behave erratically or not at all if it gets wet.
But barring those things, if this happens in Linux, it sounds as if there is something wrong with your hardware. :(
