Now that was the second HD that she had crash on her with that macbook. Is this generally an issue for these?
The screen flickers, mostly after it wakes up or turns on for the first time. It flickered before I had the new HD in and installed snow leopard as well. From reading other posts, it seems like this may be the inverter board. Is that a hard fix?
OK...discuss. Thanks!
Hard disk - yes Apple had a recall for many of the MacBooks built around that time but hard disks fail on anything especially laptops ...
The screen flicker is more likely to be the inverter to logicboard cable - they fray - does it flicker when you move the screen up and down on it's hinges ??
If so it will be the cable -- instructions on ifixit.com

I'm interested to see how much you can get for these on eBay. Ever try it?

I would also suggest that if you are buying an external your biggest bang for your buck would be to go with a 2 or even 3 tb drive.

I also noticed my speed has dropped considerably with it. Any ideas? It went from 25-28mb down to now only 15mb down. Not sure what the deal is.

I'm looking at picking up a Mac Mini as a HTPC and dropping cable, but then I realized my 42" plasma only supports 1024x768 resolution.
I'm guessing this won't exactly be optimal, so I'm weighing whether to get a better tv. I don't really want to have to spend the extra money on a new set, so I'm hoping I could get some opinions as to how dismal the experience will be with my current set up.
Thanks!
Mac OS X is survivable at that resolution. After all, it wasn't that long ago that all Apple's 12" Portables shipped at that resolution (Including the PowerBook G4 12" and iBook 12" until Mid - 2006), however that is rather sub-optimal, especially if you want to view any widescreen content.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with Macrumors event coverage.
MudBug => Provided IRC transcripts
jammerb => Provided Satellite Feed for the website updates
Knox => IRC coordination/bot management
Mr. Anderson, Eyelikeart, AmbitiousLemon, Rower_CPU => Moderating these forums during this busy time
Sparkleytone,Shadow95 => IRC moderation
Some useless stats:
- ~1500 people were on IRC across 3 channels for the event coverage.
- The Keynote coverage page was loaded over 860,000 times yesterday.
- Forums hit a new record of 2652 users on at once. (and we didn't crash :) )

Blvdr - sorry for the delay in responding.
We have not bothered to look beyond the initial "fix" since both Macs and PCs are working very well now. Cisco told us they would contact us when they had a real fix via a firmware update. Perhaps that is what the 4. is.?.
(Until we ran into this problem Cisco did not list the older version on the site and last I looked there wasn't the 4). Maybe we will try that. We are waiting for the EnGenius new WAPs to come out in the Fall before we make any changes. "Don't fix it if it works"......unless you are extremely curious and enjoy tinkering. Hmmm:)
Interesting thread on Cisco's site. and yes we tried setting the MTU to 1500 first.
Thanks

I am a mac, pc and networking tech and I've been looking for an ethernet document scanner that will work on a mac only network.
I recently received the following response from canon regarding this matter. I expect to receive a similar response from fujitsu on the same issue.
Does anyone out there believe that we can create enough demand?
Please advise.
Many thanks,
Alexis (aka The Mactrician)
RESPONSE FROM CANON:
Dear Alexis (aka The Mactrician):
Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Unfortunately, Canon does not release plans to us for future models so
we do not know if there are even any plans for a Mac network scanner.
Products are created based on demand or suspected demand, and demand for
Mac scanners is low, and demand for Mac network scanners is lower. I
can pass your request up, but demand so far is unlikely to produce
anything.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your
inquiry.
Thank you for choosing Canon.
Sincerely,
Justin

my 3G iphone is now officially a POS (piece of ****). I rely heavily on my phone for business. I swap from email to text to phone frequently. I do about 3000 mins a month. My phone was fine with 3.0 software, ever since the upgrade to 4.0 (and now to 4.2.1). My iphoney is about to get replaced. It takes 4-5 secs for to switch to texts, about 4-5 secs to switch to email, when dialing a phone number it hesitates and often you end up with dialing the wrong number because it doubled up a number. Today my safari window locked up, I can't switch between open safari windows, its completely locked.
I will not be upgrading to iphoney 4, screw u apple, I am so pissed off that you would pull a stunt like this, I expected that from the other guys, not you.
Blackberry here I come!

The physical "home" button on the phone? There isn't anything, really.
Are you talking about a button you made? If so, just connect it to an IBAction in Interface Builder.
Sorry if this isn't helpful, but we need more information.
Thanks, for answer.
I dont know exactly, what is the name of this button.
But i think about the only button in the bottom part of the device (iPad, Ihpone) (the round button with the square ))) )

I bought the uDac specifically for using with the iPad+camera kit. Since the new firmware, I also had to buy a T3hub ( not pictured)

Does this Apple store accept cash if I get a gift card first? And I have confusion about my iPhone 4 reservation, it says it's held till the end of the day but at the bottom it says this:
Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can anyone shed light to this?
I don't think you'll be able to pay cash for an iPhone. THey charge the credit card so that they can limit phones based on cards.

I had the same issue...new Ipad 2g, I was going to add 1 playlist and got the msg. Thought "what the heck" and hit upload anyway. It added my playlist without deleting anything on my Ipad. It was rather disturbing tho, to see that warning come up.

Sandy Bridge CPUs officially support only 1333MHz but 1600MHz has been proven to work (not with iMacs yet though).
The HD uses SATA 3Gb/s, that is why the negotiated speed is 3Gb/s.
I've been out of the loop... I was running DDR3 1600 on a Core i7 920 seems like years ago. That official support was 1066 I think.
